If you were to look at the State report you would see both preference point and random draw odds because Wyoming gives 75% of the permits for each hunt to the max point holders and 25% are randomly allocated. Preference points are not considered during the random draw and every remaining applicant is on the same level for those permits.
Our odds take both the preference point and random draw into consideration. This can raise some questions near the preference point cut-off line.
Let’s look at an example to further explain. The state report shows Unit 79 Antelope Type 9 (archery) Regular draw odds of 50% with 1 preference point, meaning 4 applicants applied at that level and there were 2 permits. Insider odds show 60% odds at 1 preference point, why? Well, the 2 applicants that didn’t draw with 1 point now go into the random pool competing for the 1 random tag. So, those applicants at the cut-off line had both a chance to draw a preference license and the random tag, thus odds at those point levels are indeed higher than they would draw “a tag” than the simple odds the state displays.
